Master of Fine Art - Painting (by Papers)
Every Candidate for the M.F.A. Degree (by papers) of Painting shall have to register as a postgraduate student of the University.
A Candidate for being eligible for admission to the Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) degree course in different branches must have passed the Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degree examination (12 + 4 or 10 + 5 degree course) in the respective branch, of the University of Mumbai or an equivalent examination of another University of India/Abroad recognized by this University as equivalent thereto. Candidate must have passed the B.F.A degree in the respective branch in Second Class. The admission to the course will be made purely on the merits of the candidate's qualification and performance in an interview to be held by the panel of staff and/or experts appointed by the Principal / Dean / Head of the Department of college of Fine Arts, affiliated to the University of Mumbai; in which the candidate is seeking admission.
The Interview will carry 100 marks, out of which 50 marks will be 50% marks of the grand total of the marks obtained at degree examination of B.F.A. (in respective branch) and remaining 50 marks w ill be allotted to the candidate's performance in the interview. It is mandatory for the applying candidate to produce his / her B.F.A. Class/Sessional/Term-work entire portfolio at the time of interview. The panel of staff and /or experts appointed by the Principal/Dean/Head of the Department of college of Fine Arts, affiliated to the University of Mumbai; in which the candidate is seeking admission has the rights to decide the components of the interview.
Admission for the M.F.A. degree course (by Papers) in the respective branch will be open to the students from foreign countries on recommendations by the Ministry of Education and Cultural/External Affairs, Government of India and through proper channel. However their applications will be considered subject to minimum qualifications to their eligibility for admission. (20% seats will be reserved for persons out of India).
The duration of the course for the degree of Master of Fine Arts (by Papers) in the respective branch shall be TWO academic years. The number of Lectures per theory at the Master of Fine Arts Degree (by Papers) (Part I) in the respective branch shall be four lectures (one hour each) per paper/week.
The number of Practicals (in classroom/studio) at the Master of Fine Arts degree (by Papers) (Part I & II) in the respective branch shall be 16 hours/week/branch-area and each practical will be of four hours.
The examination for the degree of Master of Fine Arts (by Papers) in the respective branch will be held in TWO parts - Part I examination at the end of the First Year of the course and Part II examination at the end of the Second Year of the course. No Candidate will be permitted to join the Part II of the course unless he has previously passed in Part I examination. Every candidate who has passed Part-I examination, has take the admission for Part II.
No Candidate will be permitted to appear for Part I or Part II examination unless he has fulfilled the requirements laid down by the University regarding attendance, practical work, dissertation, viva-voce etc. in relevant Ordinances and Regulations, to the satisfaction of the Concerned Guiding Teacher or the Dean/Principal of the College. The referees for the dissertation at the M.F.A. degree course (by Papers) will be appointed by the Academic Council on the recommendation of the relevant Boar;: of Studies and the dissertation will be referred for examination and report lo two referees - one external referee and the other guiding teacher of the candidate.
The referees conducting the viva-voce shall have the thesis/dissertation in their hands and the assignments - Practical Works/ Project Work displayed at the same time.
The external referees must have completed M.F.A. degree in the respective branch
Standard for Passing the Examination
To pass M.F.A. (by Papers) in respective branch – Part-I or Part-II of the examination, a candidate must obtain a minimum of 50 percent marks in each of the Theory papers. Sessional Work, Dissertation and Viva-voce; separately. Grade/Grade points/Class will be awarded on the performance of a candidate in the Part I and Part II examination taken together.
To pass the examination the candidate must obtained 50% marks in individual subjects and in aggregate total together for passing the examination.Those successful candidates who have obtained less than 60% of the marks on the aggregate will be placed in the Second Class.
Those of the successful candidate who obtain a minimum of 60% of the marks on the aggregate will be placed in the First Class and those of the successful candidates who obtain a minimum of 70% of the marks on the aggregate will be declared to have passed the examination in the First Class with distinction.
Diploma Course
Diploma in Sculpture & Modelling
Must have passed FOUNDATION COURSE conducted by the Directorate of Art, Maharashtra state, Mumbai.
Art Teacher Diploma
Must have passed H.S.C. examination (12th std) conducted by the government of Maharashtra State Board of Higher Secondary Education and Intermediate Drawing Grade Examination conducted by the Directorate of Art, Maharashtra state, Mumbai.
Application for the admission should reach the Dean, Sir J. J. School ,Mumbai 400001 within 7 days or given date of admission.
Diploma in Art Education
Must have passed Diploma/Degree in Drawing & Painting or Sculpture & modeling or Applied Art. Applications for the Diploma/Degree courses along the copies of relevant certificate referred to the form of application for admission should reach the Dean, Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai 40001 within 7 days from the date of declaration of above Diploma or Degree, result of Maharashtra State.
Art Master Certificate Course (Part Time)
Must have passed Art teacher,s Diploma and minimum 3 years Art teaching experience.They should submit their application through Head Master of School along with attested(true)copies of the proper certificates in given date of Admission Form.
Merit List for the Admissions for A.T.D.,A.M. Cert. and Dip, A. Ed. will be declared and put on the Notice Board of the institute. No postal correspondence will be entertained.
